A bit about me
My name is Lakshmi and I am a self-taught artist from Nottingham. From a young age, drawing and painting has been my passion. I attended art classes in Malaysia when I was young and continued studying Art in the UK, achieving grade A at A level. I then decided to pursue a degree in Business & IT which was a difficult 4 years as I was not able to do what I loved the most. After graduating, I was happy I could start painting again. I now work as a Data Analyst and paint during my spare time. In between working and painting, I enjoy gardneing, cooking, travelling and going to the gym. If you'd like to see what I get up to you can follow me on Instagram!
Being lost in creating art is what brings me peace and happiness; it has really helped me get through hard times throughout the last 10 years. I woudn't know where i'd be now without art! I believe my talent is a gift and I would like to use it to bring colour and happiness into people’s homes.
About my work
All the magic happens in my little 9'x7' art studio in the heart of Nottingham (which is never this tidy!)
My comissioned works are painted using acrylics on canvas. I work mostly from my own photographs and those that are sent to me for commissions. I am inspired by nature and the things around me and I like to explore these using vibrant colours. More recently I started doing abstract art which has been influenced by my feelings and life experiences. I love taking commissions especially for pet portraits; it is an amazing feeling to see my work making someone else happy.
About my shop
My inspiration of making handmade home décor came about after moving out of my parents’ house. When decorating my home, I struggled to find something unique and personal, so I decided to make my own. After a lot of experimenting I made something that I was proud to display in my home, and then I wanted to make more. Due to the lockdown I was spending more time at home and had more free time. I spent this time experimenting with different product ideas and creating my website.
Each of the home decor items have been designed and hand painted by myself which makes every one of them unique. They are all handmade using concrete and hand painted using acrylics, then sanded for a smooth finish and either varnished or coated with resin for extra shine and protection. They can take some time to make, so sometimes there is only a limited number of items in my shop, but check back again soon as I will always be making more.
I hope you'll be able to find something you like in my shop, if not, just drop me a message and I’ll be happy to make something customised for you.
